Snapshots Quilt-Along

Have you heard about the Snapshots Quilt-Along?  If you follow along on Facebook you’ve seen the picture below a few weeks ago.  I pieced block one last night!  So fun!

Snapshots quilt

The fabrics are Daysail by Bonnie and Camille for Moda Fabrics.  Aren’t they adorable?  It’s my favorite color scheme so I especially love it!!  What I love even more, is it’s a quilt for a cause.  A free block pattern is released each month but a suggested $5 donation is encouraged.  All money raised goes directly to St Judes Childrens Hospital.  The Fat Quarter Shop and Moda Fabrics have committed to matching all donations up to $10,000!  So awesome!

The idea behind Snapshots is – each block represent things in our lives that we might take pictures of.

Here’s a link to the Fat Quarter Shops info on the Quilt-Along.

If you’re local (Salem/Keizer, Oregon) we’re going to do the quilt as a Block of the Month beginning in April.  Daysail will be arriving in the studio later this month and we will kit the quilt for those participating in the BOM. Here’s a link to a flyer with all the details.  You can sign up in the studio or email me at ~ Terri@SweetTreasuresQuilts.com

If you aren’t local be sure to give it a look.  It’s a great quilt for an even greater cause!

Block 1 cake

This is my “Let Them Eat Cake” block, which is block #1.  I’m going to make a 2nd one to use as a mini for birthday parties.  Won’t that be so cute!!  I’m going to hang a little line across one corner with the birthday person’s name on it.  That way you can change out the name!  I’ll show you a picture when it’s all done.  The next family birthday is in March so I can’t wait to long!

Thanks for visiting!

Fun with Wool!

Is there an activity you’d love to have more time for …… someday?  For me, I’d love to do more with wool.  I love the look of it, they’re generally smaller projects and very portable.  Since the motifs are stitched down by hand, it can go anywhere with you!  The wool is felted so you don’t need to worry about edges raveling.  There are a number of different ways to do Wool Applique.  Would you like to learn?

Debbie Busby, a friend of mine, and wonderful designer of Wool Applique patterns is going to be here to teach!  Her company is Wooden Spool DesignsShe’s designed a project for us that is soooo adorable!

wool project

October 17 & 18 we’re going to have a Wool Workshop.  Friday evening from 6 – 9 Debbie has a little surprise project for us, to get us warmed up and teach us her technique for Wool Applique.  On Saturday from 10 – 5 we’ll make the tablemat/wallhanging pictured.  It’ll be a fun time of stitching together.  Lunch and snacks are provided.  The cost is $90.00 for the 2 days, food and 2 kits for the projects.  If you’d like to sign up, email me at: terri@sweettreasuresquilts.com.  It’s going to be great fun!!

Beginning in January, Amber will be teaching one of Debbie’s designs.  Blessed Bee, an adorable block of the month featuring Honey Bees.  Class will be the third Thursday of each month for 12 months, 6 – 9 pm.

This is the PERFECT time of year to snuggle in and do some handwork with wool.  We’d love to have you!

Feeling a little Melancholy

As most of you know by now, I’m moving.  My residence and business.  While I’m SUPER excited, there’s a little sadness in leaving my studio.  I opened the studio 3 1/2 years ago and it’s been so great!  I guess I just hope the new studio will be as great.  I don’t mean the physical place itself but the feeling, relationships, atmosphere……..

Of course it will be!!  It’s all about the people and I have the BEST QUILTERS out there coming to the studio!  I can’t wait to be all set up and holding classes in the new studio.  We’ll have lots more space.  It’ll be great!

The picture above is one side of the studio.  One of my favorite times in the studio is when these tables are COVERED with machines, fabric and supplies early on a Saturday morning before the students come back to sew for the day at a Sleep in Your Own Bed Retreat.  It’s such a symbol of what goes on here.  The sharing of projects, ideas, compliments and life.  Joy and sadness, laughter and tears.  It all happens when we get together and trust each other.

Back to the move ~ last week my cabinet guy came out and unassembled some built ins we are moving to the new studio.  I quickly took some pictures of the studio before it was disassembled and packed up.  Those of you who come take classes there know full well what it looks like but here goes ~

The new classroom tables are ready to be delivered and we’ll be moving the rest of the studio over in the next week in a half or so.  Classes begin in the new studio with April classes.
