HAPPY NEW YEAR!

happy new year

How will you be starting your new year?  I’m starting mine with a gift from my grandbabies.  A nasty rotten cold.  They both fell sick while here for Christmas – to the point we were in urgent care on the 23rd.  Each with double ear infections, one with a 103 fever, the other with bronchitis.  Needless to say, they were pretty sick puppies.  Hope you are healthy and well as you start your new year.

On a brighter side, my daughter Bethany and I packed and organized MANY boxes, preparing for the big move!  :-)  One of my goals for this year is to REALLY organize and purge the “stuff” as I move.  Even though I do clean out and try and stay organized, after being in the same house for 28 years……well I’m sure you can guess.

My family is beginning this year with the excitement of my youngest son’s engagement!

Jason proposed to his girlfriend Heather a couple days ago while they were celebrating a late Christmas with her family in her home town, Pine City Minnesota.  We’re so happy for them!  We love Heather.  She’s such an easy fit into the family and a great fit for Jason.

Today is the first blank page of a 365 page book.

Write a good one.

What will your book be about this year?  Will you take charge and direct your year?  Make things happen?  Be purposeful as you live each precious day you’re given?  That’s what I’ll be striving for this year.  What goals are you working toward this year?  I’d love the hear about them.

Thanks for visiting!

How was your Thanksgiving?

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving!  Full of family, friends and yummy food.  :-)  I had a two parter this year.

Part #1 was at the Oregon Gardens in Silverton Oregon.  They have a lovely buffet on Thanksgiving.  This was the first time EVER we’d eaten out on Thanksgiving.  None of us felt up to hosting a big event this year so we decided to go out.  It was great for this year!  It was a mixture of kids, and extended family.  A great time!  Sorry I didn’t get a group picture.  :-(

My youngest was having a bit of a problem with us going out for Thanksgiving sooo he got on the phone and planned a long weekend at the cabin with his brother and sister for a late Thanksgiving dinner.  His brother and sister had been with the in-laws for Thanksgiving.  I thought it was sweet he wanted to all be together but it kinda defeated the purpose of a SIMPLE Thanksgiving.  But of course I wouldn’t have traded it for the world.

Part #2 at the cabin in Black Butte Ranch Oregon.

From the left, clockwise around the table – Jason (the organizer), Jason’s girlfriend Heather, Sam (belongs to Ryan and Bethany), Ryan, Joe (belongs to Ryan and Bethany), Bethany (Ryan’s wife), Bethany, Jeff (Bethany’s husband).  That’s a great bunch of kids that I couldn’t love anymore!

Little by little they headed home and Tuesday morning it was just Bethany and the boys with Ella and I.  We woke up to a little snow.  Have I told you…… it doesn’t take much snow to get me a little excited!  I LOVE snow.  The funny thing is – so does Ella!  More on that below.

Before the little boys and Bethany took off we went outside for a little photo shoot and to play in the snow for a few minutes.

I was hoping for a GREAT picture of the three of them.  This was the best one.  It’s ok.

Below is what was really going on during the photo shoot!

My Lil’ Buckaroo Quilt Kits

I’m so excited to finally show you our “My Lil’ Buckaroo” quilt!  I talked about it here when we were at Quilt Market and were wowed by Shannon Fabric’s “House of Shannon”.  A house furnished entirely of items made with Cuddle Fabric.  It was luscious and I had no idea you could do so much with cuddle/minky type fabric.  We also learned some great tips for working with cuddle fabric.  I talked about it here.

Fast forward 3 months and here’s our version of the cowboy quilt made by Amber and quilted by Loretta.

My Lil' Buckaroo Quilt

My Lil’ Buckaroo Quilt

As I said before, part of the reason I was so excited about this collection was that I was in the process of putting together a cowboy room at the cabin for my two little grandsons.  Amber made this quilt and I’ll be making a second one for the twin log beds in the room.  My two little urban cowboys will be snuggly warm under these.  We backed the quilt with a pony print cuddle fabric and Loretta put a light weight cotton batting in it.  It’s soooo soft and snuggly!

x

The kit includes the fabrics pictured including binding and pattern for $79.00.

The pony print backing in the bottom left corner of the picture is $39.00.

This is not listed on our website.  If you have questions or would like to purchase this kit, email Terri.

This little cowboy is going to enjoy his snuggly quilt.

I feel like I’m leaving somebody out here.  My other little cowboy - even though he doesn’t know he’s my little cowboy yet.  He did have fun rocking on the rocking horse, but I didn’t get a picture of that.  He was a little waterdog this visit.

Have a GREAT Labor Day Weekend!

A little rest and relaxation!

I’ve just returned from a much needed break with my family.  We all need a little R & R at times.  It’s been a nice break.  I’m so thankful that all my kids could make it.  For those of you with adult children you know how challenging it can be to get everyone together, let alone for a whole week!

Just a little glimpse into our Alaskan Cruise.

the kids at Glacier

Baby Joe’s the only one that didn’t come.  We didn’t think this vacation was a good fit for a 1 year old.  From left to right – Jason (kiddo #3), Ryan (kiddo #1), Bethany (Ryan’s wife), Sam (Ryan and Bethany’s first), Bethany (kiddo #2), and Jeff (Bethany’s husband).  I love them all so much!  They are each amazing people.

along with my sister and her husband.

We cruised the inside passage in Alaska.  We sailed from Seattle on a beautiful sunny day.

Ketchikan ~ Juneau ~ and Skagway where the ports we visited.  Also spent a morning cruising the Tracy Arm Fjord.

Jason and I cruised the Misty Fjords in Ketchikan.  The kids and I visited the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau and a large group of us took a trip through the mountainside on the White Pass railway in Skagway.

Throughout the trip we were delighted to see some fun wild life that we don’t see here at home.  Bear climbing a tree, a beautiful Caribou just staring at the train, mama seals with their babies, orca’s, killer whales, porpoises.  It was pretty amazing!

Alaska was experiencing a bought  of unusually nice weather while we were there.  It was great!

Now I’m going to leave you with a string of my favorite pictures from the trip.  this is when my web-guy would say, “wow! that was a content rich post”!  I think that means I got carried away with the pictures!  :-)

Last but not least, this is Sam in his suit for formal night on the ship.  He was the most handsome fella there (trust me, he got LOTS of attention from the ladies)!

Whether you have a big vacation planned for this summer or not, be sure to make a little R & R time for yourself.
