HAPPY NEW YEAR!

happy new year

How will you be starting your new year?  I’m starting mine with a gift from my grandbabies.  A nasty rotten cold.  They both fell sick while here for Christmas – to the point we were in urgent care on the 23rd.  Each with double ear infections, one with a 103 fever, the other with bronchitis.  Needless to say, they were pretty sick puppies.  Hope you are healthy and well as you start your new year.

On a brighter side, my daughter Bethany and I packed and organized MANY boxes, preparing for the big move!  :-)  One of my goals for this year is to REALLY organize and purge the “stuff” as I move.  Even though I do clean out and try and stay organized, after being in the same house for 28 years……well I’m sure you can guess.

My family is beginning this year with the excitement of my youngest son’s engagement!

Jason proposed to his girlfriend Heather a couple days ago while they were celebrating a late Christmas with her family in her home town, Pine City Minnesota.  We’re so happy for them!  We love Heather.  She’s such an easy fit into the family and a great fit for Jason.

Today is the first blank page of a 365 page book.

Write a good one.

What will your book be about this year?  Will you take charge and direct your year?  Make things happen?  Be purposeful as you live each precious day you’re given?  That’s what I’ll be striving for this year.  What goals are you working toward this year?  I’d love the hear about them.

Thanks for visiting!

Monday’s Motivation

born this day 12-23-13

The family has begun arriving to gather together and celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior.

Christmas has become such a time of reflection for me.  I guess when life throws curve balls our focus becomes more concentrated on what and who is around us for this moment in time instead of going through the motions just assuming things will always be what you expect.  And you know…..  I think that’s a good thing.

I hope you have an extra special Christmas this year!

Happy Birthday Jesus!

Exciting News!

So I think it’s about time I tell you all!  My local students know about what’s happening around here but thought I’d share with everyone.

Sweet Treasures is growing!  The business, studio (classroom) and my personal residence are moving.  We just plain ol’ need more space!  I closed on the property last month and by the end of the month the remodel had begun.  There’s some remodeling going on in all parts of the property so things have been hoping!  My contractor is keeping things moving.  I’m having troubles keeping up!

There are three parts.  My personal residence, a large space I’ll be using for my personal studio, office and work space, and the business office, storage for the online store (more on that soon) and classroom space.  Whewsh!

The house is getting some pretty extensive cosmetic changes along with completely redone bathrooms.  Just making it more “ME”.

My sewing space is getting bigger windows all new electrical for great lighting (a must), carpet, cabinetry…..

The 2400 square foot detached shop is going through the biggest transformation.  It’s a finished blank canvas.  Would you like to see the evolution?

Here’s a few pictures of the exterior of the studio before any remodeling.

The little short space on the left side will be the Sweet Treasures office.  Inside I taped the layout for the walls creating a large storage space for the web store, a food prep area for class time (we always have yummy treats) and another all purpose storage space.

Here’s some shots of the big open space before any remodeling.

Big open space

The big open space – it was like a roller rink! The echo in there hurt your ears.

Back left corner - left door goes to what will be the office, right door to the restroom.

So far:

Everything gutted

interior walls framed

ceiling framing done – dropped from 16 ft to 12 ft

kitchen cabinets somewhat in place

ducting run and finishing up the new furnace/air-conditioning today

53 can lights installed

spots for the above classroom table chandeliers wired

outdoor lighting added

new windows installed in front and new sliding glass door into the office installed

Here’s a few pictures in process.  Doesn’t look like much yet but sooooo much work has been done!

All framed for new windows

framed electrical route

See the little trail in the center of the room?  That’s where the concrete was cut so they could run electrical for floor outlets so the classroom tables can float in the room instead of needing to be against a wall.  It will feel so much roomier for the students.

Framing on the left will be the storage area for the web store with access to the office.  The framing on the right creates a little galley style food prep area (behind it).

View as you walk in.  The back wall will create the all purpose storage area.

ceiling

This is where so much of the work has taken place!  The metal grid is the framing for the new ceiling, all the can lights, ducting for heat/cool suspended from the ceiling.

Well I’m sure that was more than you cared to see or know.  If you made it to the end—-Good for you!  I’m excited!  It’s going to be a really great space.  I can’t wait to be moved in, having classes and organizing the spaces.

Sheet rock begins Wednesday and the siding will be going back on.

Thanks for taking the tour!
